ChiroHealth of North Carolina is a company name chosen to represent the progressive activities of Melissa Carter, specifically her endeavors to achieve greater public exposure and participate in the advancement of chiropractic health care. Intertwining committments to the community and chiropractic professionals, Melissa is able to connect on two fronts through ChiroHealth- Community Outreach/Education and Practice Support. Through ChiroHealth, Melissa focuses on growing the company to become a ChiroResource for our neighbors and surrounding chiropractic offices. There is much work that lay ahead in these endeavors, and Melissa hopes the chiropractic community will support her in her mission.
ChiroHealth of North Carolina is a new and innovative idea, a first of its kind. Developed to support the general mission of chiropractic physicians to help as many people as possible, Melissa continues to mold the company to benefit communities across the Carolinas, as well as the professionals providing care. Melissa combines her professional experiences with a passion for advocacy and a determination to help faciliate access to necessary chiropractic treatment.
Here's a little about Melissa:
Melissa had never even received chiropractic care before she was graced with an assistant position with a most gifted chiropractic physician. Absorbing everything she could about chiropractic (the doctor being a Chiropractic Neurologist was invaluable), Melissa began to see the actual relationship between the research she enjoyed reviewing or discussing with other doctors, and the patients who received treatment in the office. Melissa saw patients getting their lives back; many patients having suffered for years while being bounced from one specialist to another without long-term relief. She saw entire families, her own included, benefit from the long-term health benefits of chiropractic.
The more knowledge she gained, the clearer became the need for "laymen" education for the community at large. Melissa realized that more people should have access to the scientific, evidence-based facts about chiropractic as an treatment option. Chiropractic helps many people at all levels of healthiness, not only after a painful experience. Melissa'a most beautiful revelation about chiropractic is that many spinal conditions are- get this- PREVENTABLE, just as cavities are preventable through proper care of the teeth! ChiroHealth was developed to shed light on the viable treatment option of chiropractic care, to include topics many in our community have not heard about from the medical community, but can learn about through their own research.
The idea is to better the lives of our neighbors by providing educational and supportive services to promote greater access to high quality chiropractic treatment. Based on widely accepted statistics, only approximately 10-15% of American citizens utilize chiropractic treatment. Using this percentage to analyze the large city of Charlotte, NC, there are approximately half a million citizens who do not receive chiropractic care. It is ChiroHealth's belief that this under-utilization may be a result of our neighbors being uniformed or misinformed about the treatment option, which is precisely why Melissa feels it is so important to invest in educational initiatives in our communities statewide.
Current and many past studies on chiropractic treatment reveal substantial benefits, especially for patients who need a drug-free, non-invasive treatment option. New studies being conducted are expected to reveal similar benefits with even greater clarity, upholding chiropractic philosophy with scientific results, for patients of all ages, from newborns to our oldest adults. Just as we have learned so much about the complexities of the human body through scientific study, especially over the last few decades, we are learning more and more through scientific study about why and exactly how chiropractic works with our bodies to promote healthier lives. There's an abundance of knowledge to share about the interaction between the chiropractic adjustment and the human nervous system and other affected parts of our bodies. Chiropractors who truly care about their patients understand that being part of community educational and outreach initiatives in their areas is very important. If the chiropractic profession does not inform the public, who will?
Beyond the science of chiropractic, each chiropractor and staff also has an obligation to provide the highest quality care possible. This includes ensuring that each patient interaction is exceptional. Exceptional patient experiences are a result of conscious evolution, beginning the first day of practice and continuing throughout the doctor's healing career.
Melissa recognizes that standardized training for staff members is critical to the long-term growth and acceptance of the chiropractic profession by the community. As more chiropractors realize the benefits and necessity of staff training, there will emerge the next generation of patient-focused practices with highly skilled staff members that exude a comforting confidence in their doctor, truly care about the health of their patients, and create an environment highlighting their enthusiasm for and knowledge about chiropractic. At that point, exceptional patient experiences will be more commonplace than ever in the chiropractic office, with our neighbors understanding the importance of chiropractic treatment in their lives.
To support chiropractic professionals, Melissa has developed a comprehensive array of services through ChiroHealth. Physicians have the opportunity to directly support ChiroHealth's mission by utilizing services designed to benefit both the individual practice and the community in which they practice. Services currently offered include ChiroTraining Workshops for staff, ChiroQuality Assurance Review for the whole practice, and a PublicAccess Program that helps practices engage in specific activities to get their name out into the community and share important knowledge about chiropractic.
Melissa holds this quote dear to her heart:
When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, "I used everything you gave me." Erma Bombeck
